Melting my teacher - momma heart

Last night, S did what he has gotten into the habit of doing lately...stalling at bedtime. The way he does so is by asking "read another book?" and then adding "last one." Funny how there can be so many last ones to an almost 2 yr. old! Anyway, he hits at my weakness (and I think he knows it) because I adore reading with him. So he pulled out BIG RED BARN, by Margaret Wise Brown. We've only had this book since Christmas, and while we've read it alot, it isn't a multiple times a day read. Just the night before we read it and I decided to test if he could finish the last word of some of the rhyming sentences. He did so amazingly, saying words that I don't normally hear him using in his daily constant narratives, words like field, squeal, throats, nests, and rest.

Well, last night he decided to top that and so he held the book and "read" the page where the text says, "There was an old black cat, Meow! Meow! And a tiger tomcat, Yeow! Yeow! There was a big red dog, Bow! Wow! With some little puppy dogs, All round and warm."

S's version was something like this:
"There cat, meow, and a tiger, and a big dog, and puppy dogs, warm". He interspersed some "oohing and ahhing" to show that he thought the little puppy-dogs and kitty-cats were cute.

I'm not sure if this melts other hearts...maybe you have to be a mommy or a teacher or a big fan of the book to have it hit you, but it sure made me proud of my little guy!

That book was always a favorite at our house sparking the love of books even to this day. It melts my heart and impresses me that he loves it and can memorize so easily.

Books are always a weakness at bed time or anytime for us. What is a few more minutes for a quality memory that will last forever.

Give him a hug from his Auntie who is ever so proud of him.
